The business opportunity of global health

Monday 7 December 2015

For too long, business saw global health purely as a burden. This is unnecessary and outdated. Although dire, HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, and diarrhoeal diseases can be re-framed in terms of entrepreneurial opportunity, technology leapfrogging, and business model inventions. Essentially, to innovators, these are simply becoming increasingly realistic, emerging market bottom-of-the-pyramid plays. The value created will lift these issues into the mainstream. There will be winners and losers, both among market entrants in life science multinationals and among local players. The next decade presents exciting opportunities for innovators in global health. Millions of people will likely benefit tremendously. All we have to do is reinvent healthcare, hack, rebuild, and scrap what was there before.
